About Us
My name is Lisa Smith and I'd like to welcome you to Southern Cuddle Pugs. I am an ER nurse and fulltime breeder of Pugs. My husband, Corey, works from home as well as assisting in all aspects of breeding. Both of our teenaged boys assist with all dog care and training. I am also furthering my education in dog training as well as starting a pet therapy program in my community of Blairsville, GA.
Our family has had family dogs since before our children were born. Our oldest, KC, had wanted a Pug for many years. For his 14th birthday, Pugsley, a cream pug, came into our family. As we watched the bond grow between he and Pugsley, we began to research the breed. We soon decided we wanted other families to feel that same companionship that Pugsley brought to us. Southern Cuddle Pugs was created to allow other families/individuals to feel first hand the true love only a Pug can bring.
After extensive research into the breed, we created a breeding program that will keep our Pugs healthy and happy. All of our Pugs were raised and continue to live in our home in Blairsville, GA. In our home, we have cats, additional family dogs, and children of all ages on any given day. We believe that a great puppy starts with great parents. That is why we socialize and train with our Pugs every chance we get.
Our Vision
Southern Cuddle Pugs focuses on the health and well-being of uniquely colored, family friendly pugs.
When we began to research the Pug breed, we realized some of the health concerns that are prominent in the standard breed. Pugs have been bred, and sometimes inbred, to have a pronounced brachycephalic head/face. This means smushed face. With this skull structure comes many respiratory problems. Our vision to to decrease the respiratory problems with each litter. We have carefully chosen our dams and studs with these concerns front and center.
We have also grown to admire all the unique colors Pugs can be. We love the traditional fawns and blacks but cream/white has a special place in our hearts. At Southern Cuddle Pugs, you will find we specialize in all unique coloring. You will find Merle, Brindle, Panda, Sable, and Chocolate, as well as Fawn and Black.
Our Puppies
All puppies will receive regular vet visits as well as deworming and first shots prior to going to their furever home. Puppies will also go home with a new puppy bag full of goodies, sample of dog food, and folder with health information and fun facts about raising a new puppy. We have loved these puppies since birth and can not wait to see the love you will give them in your home. We highly encourage you to reach out with any questions or concerns you will have as your puppy grows.
What makes us different
First, we started with what makes a Pug...a Pug! Pugs originally were bred as companion dogs. That standard has not changed over the many centuries since their creation. Pugs continue to be identified as companion dogs today. We do not waiver from that standard at Southern Cuddle Pugs either. All of our Pugs are housed within our home. Corey works from home therefore he always has a Pug near him. We have regular outings outside to play, run, and sunbathe in our fenced-in backyard. Each pug spends about 30 minutes everyday training with Lisa either on obedience or therapy training. Several of our Pugs are also therapy pets. During the evening, our Pugs are either playing in the basement with each other, playing with our two teenaged boys, or out and about with us. We strongly believe in socializing our Pugs as much as possible.
